The qualifications for the Regional Anesthesiology Fellowship Program are that the applicant will have completed an AGCME-Accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program by the start of the fellowship. Our fellows will become experts in the placement of peripheral nerve blocks, nerve block catheters, and thoracic and lumbar epidurals. The documents and resources within this section are provided by the Review Committee for Anesthesiology and its staff at the ACGME to assist ACGME-accredited programs and those applying for accreditation. Have the knowledge and skills required to establish a new Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine program in his/her future practice and to adopt emerging knowledge and techniques for the acute pain management of patients whom he/she encounters, Train future generations of generalists and subspecialists in Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine, Provide leadership in the organization and management of an acute pain medicine service within the hospital setting composed of a variety of specialists to provide comprehensive multimodal acute pain management. They gain experience with the management of complex patients with acute pain through regional and neuraxial techniques as well as multimodal analgesia including low-dose ketamine and lidocaine infusions. There is presently no sub-specialty certification, International Medical Graduates must be approved by the PGE Office at Western University. The program is designed to produce experts in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain management. Fellowship training is designed to develop expertise in the practice and theory of regional anesthesia and acute pain management techniques. On-call service is required. There are opportunities to participate in ongoing research projects such as outcomes in regional anesthesia, acute pain management for patients with a history of addiction, and several quality improvement initiatives.
